Why tanks fail in Florida
Most factory tanks are foamed into the hull. Once water gets into that foam, it sits against the aluminum and eats it from the outside in. On Gulf Coast boats this often shows up between year twelve and year twenty.
How replacement is done
The deck is opened, the old tank and saturated foam are removed, and the compartment is cleaned and repaired. The new tank is installed with proper support, isolation and drainage so it does not sit in trapped water — then fuel lines, sender and fill are checked and the deck is closed back up and finished.
Safety first
Fuel work is not the place to cut corners. Smelling fuel, seeing weeping around the fill, or watching your fuel gauge behave strangely all warrant a look right away.

- Boat is 12+ years old with a foamed-in aluminum tank
